CWOSSA Statement – Feb 8, 2021
It is unfortunate and disappointing that CWOSSA must share the cancellation of the 2021 Spring championships.
Recognizing the importance of school sport and physical activity, we continue to seek ways to engage students in this way. The benefits for mental and physical health and well-being are crucial and we support the continuation of activity in ways that support the protocols and guidelines set by local public health units.
In the OFSAA statement, they encouraged “whenever possible, local interschool sports, intramurals and skill development”. CWOSSA also supports and encourages these opportunities. In the meantime, OFSAA has introduced new programs such as virtual challenges, the OFSAA Café, and a newly announced Student Forum. Please visit the OFSAA website for full details.
In addition, OPHEA is working diligently to prepare COVID-19 safety considerations for inter school competitions. OPHEA and OFSAA work together to support this and the Ontario government has compiled several sport-specific safety and protocol documents from provincial and national sport organizations, available at https://www.ontario.ca/page/return-to-play.
We are hopeful that the return to high school sport is in the near future.
